Power Rewards Information

AEP Ohio’s Power Rewards: Smart Thermostat Program pays you to reduce electricity use when energy demand is high. This gives you a unique opportunity to earn easy money while promoting energy efficiency and reliability for all AEP Ohio customers.

On days when the demand for electricity is at its highest, AEP Ohio may initiate an energy conservation event. A signal is sent to your thermostat to adjust the setpoint temperature up to 3 degrees.  Although these events are optional, by participating, you can help reduce statewide power consumption and electricity load to ensure a stable energy supply.

• Immediately before an event, your home may be pre-cooled in the summer or pre-heated in the winter by a few degrees.  Depending on how well it is insulated, your home should remain comfortable.
• While the event is underway and depending on the current season, your temperature set point will increase or decrease up to three degrees, but your home will not instantly become warmer or colder.  In fact, you may not notice any temperature change at all.
• At the end of the event, your thermostat returns to its target temperature and your original schedule.
• Events last 4 hours or less.
• Power Rewards has two distinct seasons:
    · Summer cooling events occur May through September
    · Winter heating events occur October through April

Your Benefits:
• Receive a one-time $75 instant rebate on the purchase of an eligible Wi-Fi connected smart thermostat for enrolling in the program.
• Get $25 each year for participating in at least 75% of Power Rewards events.

Who is eligible?
• AEP Ohio customers enrolled in a residential rate
• Live in a home with central air conditioning and/or electric heating system controlled by the Wi-Fi connected eligible thermostat
• Must have or install a Wi-Fi connected eligible thermostat
